Rosenberry, Zardes among USMNT cuts ahead of Serbia match

Bruce Arena has named his 23-man squad ahead of Sunday’s match against Serbia, and the USMNT boss will have his first chance to look at his MLS-heavy roster.

The former LA Galaxy boss initially had invited 32 players into January camp, but with FC Dallas duo Matt Hedges and Kellyn Acosta as well as Whitecaps attacker Kekuta Manneh sent home, Arena cut his roster down to 23 on Friday.

D.C. United defender Taylor Kemp, Union defender Keegan Rosenberry, LA Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Rowe, Crew midfielder Wil Trapp and Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski were all shipped back to their respective clubs for preseason training, while Gyasi Zardes has also gone back to the Galaxy after picking up a minor knee injury.

Following Sunday’s match against Serbia in San Diego, California, the USMNT will then take on Jamaica four days later at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
