Report: Barcelona invited to be 2017 MLS All-Star opponent

The MLS All-Star Game has attracted several of the world’s biggest clubs over recent years, and Spanish giants Barcelona could be the next team to face MLS’ best players.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, Jose Enrique’s side has been invited to participate in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game, however, the Blaugrana have yet to accept an offer.

Barcelona has won La Liga (Spain’s top flight) four times and the UEFA Champions League twice since 2010, with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez among the list of stars in the club’s starting squad.

Since the league’s change in format, the All-Stars have taken on several of Europe’s top teams, including Premier League clubs Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as Bayern Munich of the German Bundesliga.

The 2017 edition of MLS’ midseason classic is slated to be at Chicago’s Soldier Field — home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears — although no official decision has been announced to date.
