Red Bulls re-sign defender Damien Perrinelle

The New York Red Bulls have brought back one of its most experienced defenders, giving the club some assurances at the center back position.

The club announced on Wednesday that it has re-signed veteran central defender Damien Perrinelle, who joined the Red Bulls back in July 2014 from French club Istres.

Perinelle, 33, has made 51 appearances in all competitions for the Eastern Conference side since joining the club and has added two goals in that span.

“We are pleased to bring Damien back for 2017,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. “Damien has been an important part of our back line for the last two years, and we think he can continue to play a big role for us this season.”

With the losses of Chris Duvall and Ronald Zubar this offseason, the Red Bulls must rely on Perrinelle, Aurelien Collin, Justin Bilyeu and Aaron Long to hold down the starting center back positions in Marsch’s 4-2-3-1 system.
