MLS Releases Full 2016 Season Schedule

Red Bull New York and New York City FC announced their full 34 match season schedules this afternoon. The teams will meet up for three incarnations of the “Hudson Derby” in 2016.Yankee Stadium will host the first match on Saturday, May 21st, and the rematch as well on Sunday, July 3rd. The season series will close out at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, July 24th.

Coming off their Supporter’s Shield winning 2015 campaign, RBNY will open the season at home on Sunday, March 6th against reigning MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco and Toronto FC at 1:30. They will take on the Columbus Crew, the team which knocked them out of the Eastern Conference Finals last year, on Saturday, June 25th and then again on Sunday, October 16th at RBA. The Red Bulls host the 2015 MLS Champion Portland Timbers on Sunday, July 10th.

Kaka and reigning MLS Rookie of the Year winner Cyle Larin of Orlando City SC host the Red Bulls on Sunday, April 24th, while the Red Bulls host the Floridians on Friday, May 6th, and Wednesday, July 13th. The LA Galaxy, with their star power of Steven Gerrard, Giovani dos Santos, Robbie Keane, and Gyasi Zardes, and potentially Ashley Cole, host the Red Bulls on Sunday, August 7th.

NYCFC will open their second season – their first under manager Patrick Vieira – on the road when they visit the Chicago Fire on Sunday, March 6th at 2:00pm. Yankee Stadium will host its first match a week later when Giovinco, Michael Bradley, and Jozy Altidore of Toronto FC come to town on Sunday March 13th. The Portland Timbers will host NYCFC on Sunday, May 15th.

Orlando City SC with Kaka and Larin will visit the Big Apple on Friday, March 18th, while Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and Frank Lampard will head to Florida on Sunday, May 19th. New York will look for revenge against the LA Galaxy at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, August 20th. Last year they were blown out of StubHub Center in LA 5-1 during an internationally televised match. NYCFC will take on reigning Eastern Conference champions Columbus Crew on Saturday, April 16th at MAPFRE Stadium, and then again on Saturday, August 13th in Ohio. NYCFC close out the season at home against Columbus on Sunday, October 23rd.
