Baah In The USL: Injured Defender To Log Minutes With NYRBII

It’s been nearly a year since Red Bull New York centerback Gideon Baah has put on a jersey. After breaking his leg in July of 2016 he was subsequently placed on the season ending injury list prior to the 2017 season, ruling out any return to the MLS side this year. However, he has been training with the first team, and now expects to log minutes with their USL affiliate.

By virtue of being placed on the season ending injury list, he is ineligible to play for the New York Red Bulls in any competition this year. However, he is eligible to play for their lower-league affiliate, New York Red Bulls II. Now that his recovery has progressed, he expects to play limited matches with the Baby Bulls.

Due to the nature of his leg injury, he and the team are waiting until NYRBII plays on natural grass surfaces before putting on the pitch. This season, the team switched their home stadium from Red Bull Arena to Montclaire State University, which features an artificial turf field.

Their next match on natural grass will be on Sunday July 9th when they visit the Bethlehem Steel, who play at Goodman Stadium, which features Kentucky Bluegrass.

Last year, he played four matches with the USL side while recovering from other injuries.
